This title is changing and change it must
We’re hyper aware of the things that break our concentrations, attentions, and focuses (foci?). Then the work day is over, and leisurely strolls down virtual rabbit holes painted with forgotten memes are more permitted. The one thing that remains is our drive to consume the most current residue of our culture. Searches are refreshed on Twitter after three second intervals. Notifications are refreshed to outpace the server already working overtime. Something captured six hours ago, however, amazing, is forgone mentally. And chemically.
Rather than focus on the ecosystem and the viability of the thoughts and emotions communicated via its channels/tendrils, we have a concern for speed and access.
But those who are fastest to the news do not win in the end. They merely read the news without an accompaniment of fellow readers, likeminded individuals, and adventurers.
We think the community is stronger when distractions are intentionally made minimal, when people are engaged, and when the algorithm favors quality over the most contemporary.
That is why this story will be edited once our first global product (cryptically called ‘You’re Welcome’. Why is it so polite?) is out of private beta. And then probably further edited when updates and fixes are made. The speed of this article nearing completion will grow to a crawl and that will be fine for us.
To be continued…
