To Increase Your Creativity, Learn How To Do Nothing.

The key to reaching your goals might be to simply learn how to do absolutely nothing more often.

When it comes to creativity, most people only think about how to stimulate it by reading more, going out more, listening to music more often, speaking to more interesting people or doing more research. The list is endless and often involves doing “more”. Yet, this approach is exactly what hinders creativity in the first place.

Obviously, being out there and participating in all kinds of activities can help to get ideas and feel more connected to the outside world. However, most people tend to do too much and end up with the feeling of not being able to organize any of their thoughts and ideas. In my case, I often feel like my brain is too “full", as a complete chaos of bright ideas that do not want to stand still for me to be able to paint them fully. This chaos may happen because the brain needs very regular breaks to rest and perform at its best. There is no secret recipe. For the brain to rest, the mind needs to be still. For the mind to be still, it needs to be doing NOTHING.
