The two most important pillars in product management are — vision and strategy. Vision is the dream of the future with an overarching goal. Strategy is all about winning. It helps product succeed and makes the vision a reality.

Below figure demonstrates a practical example of a product in a healthcare setting. Product strategy acts as a bridge for the execution/tactics to reach the vision. Execution should always be aligned to the vision through the vehicle of strategy.

Even though strategy is highly important, it’s often mistaken. If product strategy isn’t clearly defined and understood, it results in severe alignment issues and sometimes chaos.
