“We should all be striving towards living a extraordinary life.”
I’ve been studying happiness & positive psycology for about the last five years. The worst had happened to me & I lost my mom to the battle of cancer in 2013. I’ve been on the path of personal development since.
Happiness can be felt when the world is meeting our current expectations. Anytime life is going our way we tend to feel happy & we feel unhappy when our expectations aren’t met.
True joy & happiness come together when you’re consciously aware that you are feeling happy & feel a sense of deep satisfaction with life — moment to moment.
Here are three ways to begin cultivating happiness into your life:
Enhance Your Self-Awareness
In order for us to experience an extraordinary life we must start focusing on developing our self-awareness. It’s very important to understand what your thoughts, emotions, strengths and weaknesses are & why you have them.
As we become more familiar with ourselves, we can start to improve on our weaknesses & focus on more important life goals.
The key to becoming successful is having a detailed plan to get you there and realizing the importance of understanding & connecting deeper with yourself. Start asking yourself self reflecting questions such as:
What are my weaknesses and how can I improve them?
How much time am I spending on negative thoughts & emotions?
These kind of questions allow for us to take a step back from our current reality so that we’re able to gain a clearer perspective on what we love & enjoy doing the most.
The key to unlocking happiness is by spending more time on the things you love & enjoy because that’s when you feel most alive.
Move Your Body More
Optimizing your health and making sure you’re exercising enough is a vital component in how you are feeling emotionally, every day.
If you lack energy, feel unmotivated, can’t keep focused, or feel sluggish throughout certain parts of your day, then moderate physical activity is necessary for you.
These are signs of your body breaking down & you must take action.
Your body was biologically created to move, run, jump, swim, lift, hike etc. and it’s the secret to living a long & healthy life. Research shows how exercise can increase your happiness levels, enhance your focus, improve sleep quality, and increase over all energy.
Staying physically active brings an array of benefits and you should start as soon as today. Your health is a key stone habit which has to become a priority if you’re going to be successful and happy. It can be challenging at first but you will have a better life because of it.
When you don’t like the way you feel & look physically it can be very difficult for us to stay happy. This is because we lack self-confidence which grows into feelings of self-doubt about our image & current circumstances.
Don’t become trapped in the mindset of never being able to change because that’s just an excuse.
The foundation of your happiness is dependent on your appreciation for life itself. We must choose to pick appreciation over our own self-pity.
When you become grateful for what you already have, life reveals it’s blessings to you. Research shows that being grateful reduces toxic emotions such as regret, fear, anger and anxiety. This is correlated to effectively increasing our happiness and reducing depression.
Gratitude has also been proven to significantly help in over coming past traumas. This is caused by training your mind to focus on more things to appreciate which deters our attention away from the past or the things we had no control over.
We must make the choice to be thankful for what we already have in the hardest parts of life because this is how we cultivate our gratitude. Start by giving thanks for waking up in the morning & having the ability to open your eyes.
By expressing gratitude first thing in the morning we are putting our mind in a state of appreciation. Remember that gratitude reduces negative thoughts & feelings you may have about the day or day before which often happens if we don’t take control of our thoughts first thing in the morning.
The more thankful you become, the happier you are.
