Few days ago, when I was interviewing with a recruiting manager for my next job opportunity, when he comes to the last question, he asked me

If you can choose a color yo describe yourself, which one would you like to choose and why?

I was totally black out since I even don’t know what kinds of colors out there except from red, blue, yellow, green ….And the meaning behind each color. So of you may rush to know my answer. Actually I said Yellow. Though it seems little chicly, I do think Yellow is the most suitable color to describe my characteristic. Since we tend to feel warm, motivated, easy to access and attractive when we saw the color and I am these kinds of person. I thought there is no doubt that I chose a great color for me .

After I told my friend this story she was shocked and say: How even possible, you are blue! Yellow can never be you!

To find out who is right and dig out the stories behind colors, I decided to do some research with color phycology that actually developed for quite a long time and many scholars are focus on finding out the connection between human character and colors.

What is Color Phycology

Color psychology is the study of hues as a determinant of human behavior. Color influences perceptions that are not obvious, such as the taste of food. … Many marketers see color as an important part of marketing because color can be used to influence consumers’ emotions and perceptions of goods and services.

What google tells us is that there is a correlation between human character and color you like or color you choose when you do test.

As we all know the basic three colors are red, yellow and blue. Other colors are all combination of these primary colors. For instance, yellow+blue=green.

Then I find out a chart online shows the emotion related to each colors.

Clearly, these are generic descriptions but it provides a leader with a starting point when assessing the different personality types that exist within a group. Even in daily life, this help us to better understand others.

Colors preference for men and women

There tend to be obvious different between man and women when they are choosing colors.

Many brands try to dig out the pattern behind colors across different genders, age and other demographic factor to improve marketing strategy on promotion and product design.
