What Makes a Planet Habitable?

We don’t really know the full answer to that question, given we have a sample size of one for habitable planets. But we can extrapolate from the differences between Earth and, well, Mars and Venus as to what’s needed for a world to be potentially habitable (or even inhabited). Here are some basic criteria:
