What Most Writers Get Wrong About AI Content
AI is not a magical pill, it’s better than that
Recently, I’ve been diving deeper into the online writing community, and boy, do people have opinions about AI.
Last week, I read a post from Sarah, a freelance writer I follow on LinkedIn. She ranted online about how “AI content is killing creativity.” She asked ChatGPT to write a blog post, and the result was… mediocre at best.
Then there’s a fellow Medium writer, who wrote a scathing article about his “experiment” with AI writing. He proudly declared that he’d proven AI content was “useless” after generating a handful of articles and showing how bland they were.
Usually, I get quickly past these emotional reactions, but this time it made me notice something.
When these writers criticize “AI content,” they secretly wish for the same ideal scenario: type “write me a blog post” into ChatGPT, hit enter, and bam! Instant, perfect content.
And since this scenario doesn’t happen, in their mind, it’s just as if AI is utterly useless.
Then, I came to another bigger realization: this conception — shared by Sarah, and countless other writers — is a form of magical thinking.
