Why I’m Not Quitting My Day Job As A ML Engineer To Write Full-Time
And maybe why you shouldn’t too
The world advocates the hustle culture. That along with the “Quit your job to chase your dreams” mindset of millennials, the Great Resignation happened.
Don’t get me wrong — I love writing and I also believe in side-hustling. But here’s why I don’t think it’s viable to quit my day job as a ML engineer (yet).
I love writing, but I love writing coding more
I did dream of being a writer when I was growing up, but growing up in Singapore, I chose a path of practicality (hard sciences) rather than one of uncertainty (arts), as did many others. I went into finance before I career switched to AI and I’ve loved it ever since.
Writing thus became a creative outlet for me and also gave me an avenue to teach people what I’ve learnt.
But still, I find the most joy writing code. I love problem-solving and programming gives me that dopamine kick I need. When you find joy in your work — stick with it, right?
I’d run out of things to write about
Let’s be real — My life is kinda boring.
