As the Cola wars are waning into the past, burger wars are taking the center stage. McDonald’s being the heavyweight champion is frequently being outmaneuvered by its rival Burger King. Not only has Burger king mastered the art of trolling its nemesis, it also has cut down on the fat from its operations.

Burger King reported increased operating margins from 11% in 2011 to a whopping 40% in 2018 on the back of several cost cutting initiatives. And with its marketing campaigns consistently slinging mustard sauce on McDonald’s image, now with leaner operations, Burger King is becoming the David that the Goliath is finding too hot to handle.

But let’s just be clear on one fact. McDonalds is way ahead of Burger King in terms of Brand value. According to research by WPP and Kantar, the brand value of Burger king is a mere $7 billion in front of McDonalds $130 billion. Burger King has a lot of ketchup to do.

With its whacky marketing stunts, however, one thing is clear. Burger King is catching up fast.
