Scrolling through Facebook recently I came across the “On this Day” post that often appears in my news feed. Facebook has some downsides, what with the whole personal data mining, the ad-driven content, and the half-true political memes littering the digital landscape, but the “On this Day” feature I actually enjoy.

It’s fun to look back on years past and revisit what happened on this particular date in my life — where I was, what my family and I were doing, what was on my mind, what I may have discussed. This brings back feelings of nostalgia, usually in the form of “Wow, my kids were so little then! Remember that day?”

I realized my life has evolved

While viewing these old posts on my feed, I marvel at how my life has changed, at what I used to think was funny or cool, or interesting or important. My views, interests, thoughts, and opinions have changed. They are continuously going through a refinement process — an evolution if you will, and that’s a good thing, despite the prevailing social norm saying the contrary. We hear it from those we used to know “You’ve changed, man.”
