So you’ve decided to go on a writing retreat. Congratulations!

You’ve put yourself and your writing first, which is hard for many of us to do.

You hop on the computer, excited about where you can go. Quickly, however, you realize your plan for a one- or two-week writing retreat has to be modified because it costs too much — or you’ll end up in a small closet-like room in someone else’s home or in a dingy hotel.

So you whittle it down to 5 days, 4 days, and then maybe 3 days. But by the time you get there and settle in, you’ll need to turn around and go back!

This isn’t even taking into account all the costs involved if you need child care, pet care, or to pay someone to water the plants. Nor does it include food or transportation.

Sigh. Perhaps I’ll go next year.
