Your Greatest Writing Strength Can Also Be Your Greatest Weakness
Put your over-checking to good use.
For those of you who are writers, you’ll understand that writing is just the beginning, not the end. In fact, it’s not even halfway there.
The most challenging task of all is to edit, revise, and proofread until your eyes ache and your heart finally whispers, “Yes, this is ready to go.” Through my years as a writer, I have come to realize that the main obstacle that makes writing a burden is “over-checking.”
It’s good to re-edit, proofread, and recheck things, but it’s equally important to strike a balance between overthinking and simple checking.
The other side of the silver line
I have no problem when writing for my journal or website because then I know any mistakes won’t be too costly (if there are any).
When working for someone, you feel as if they might spot mistakes with their fresh eyes, and this thought becomes a recurring nightmare. I stay awake almost every night, swindling between the documents until I gather up the courage to send them.
Over-checking leads to confusion, and you will always be terrified, just like me.
