Your Phone Is Not Destroying You — You Are.

I’ve been reading a lot of posts online lately about how our phone or technology is killing us or messing with our lives.
Yes, your phone is a problem, but the real problem is you.
Just because we have a tool in our pocket that’s like a super-computer with every answer to any question we could ever answer, it does not mean your phone is the issue.
Blaming our phone for the reason why we’re distracted, unproductive or majoring in minor things is BS.
You’re the problem.
It’s very convenient to blame technology and your phone for everything that’s messed up in your life.
It’s also convenient to blame your phone for the reason why you’re not doing what you love and achieving your goals.
The truth is you’re the problem.
Why? You lack discipline.
Just because the candy is put in front of you, it doesn’t mean you have to lick it and taste it’s sugary, cocaine-like goodness. There are ways to overcome phone addiction or even technology addiction for that matter.

Let me hit you in the face with them in such simple terms that even a chimpanzee could understand:
- Put your phone on flight mode when you’re sleeping.
- Put your phone in the other room when you’re reading or studying something important.
- Spend time without your phone. Leave it at home sometimes.
- Use grayscale so that the addictive colors don’t tempt you.
- Delete apps like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp so you won’t be tempted by them.
- TURN OFF NOTIFICATIONS.
Take responsibility, man.
Outsourcing the blame for why you’re failing at life, to your phone, is incredibly immature and stupid.
You are responsible and you can control your addiction. It’s up to you to fix the problem. Apple and Samsung are not going to stop making these devices and in some ways, they are a part of life whether we like it or not.
“Unless you plan on living off-grid in a cave and eating beans out of a can, you’re going to have to learn to control how you use your phone and technology”
It’s not that hard, come on.
People talk about being addicted to technology like it’s harder to deal with than quitting Heroin. It’s not.
Dealing with the complicated machine called ‘people’ is way harder than a phone with a brightly colored screen. We’re not sending astronauts to Mars here people. It’s just a phone. Get a grip.
Put in the work.
Your phone is just an excuse to piss your time up against the wall because you don’t want to put in the work.
You’re afraid to be uncomfortable and so your phone becomes a distraction for dealing with your issues. That distraction is a decision you make. Your phone doesn’t make these decisions for you — at least not yet, anyway.
Stop blaming your phone.
Put your phone down.
Get to work on that one thing that makes you excited.
