New application from Australia shows that first-generation commercial SIFT-MS instruments still deliver quality analytical results
This new application of Selected Ion Flow Tube Mass Spectrometry — SIFT-MS is described in an article recently submitted to Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics Discussions by Dr Clare Paton-Walsh (Centre for Atmospheric Chemistry at the University of Wollongong, Australia) and her collaborators.
Interestingly, the research applies the first-generation commercial instrument produced by Syft Technologies — the Voice100 — dating from 2005–2006. Since the concentrations of incomplete combustion products are typically at reasonably high concentrations, Dr Paton-Walsh’s group does not need the >100-fold sensitivity enhancement achieved on the current Voice200ultra instruments. Nevertheless, it does illustrate the long service life of our quality instruments and emphasizes the benefits of switching of reagent ions.
