Uber-style ‘Walk Away to Pay’ to become a reality at restaurants, public transport, events, parking meters, retail stores, and more in 2019.

September 27, 2018; AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND — New Zealand blockchain companies Sylo and CentraPay are proud to announce Sylo-CentraPay, a partnership designed to enable new digital payment experiences for consumers.

The partnership aims to deliver seamless payments to New Zealand and Australia in 2019 by using Sylo’s decentralised communication app (DApp) — that allows people to interact confidentially with people and businesses — and CentraPay’s payment technology. The Sylo-CentraPay digital payment technology will modernise and simplify how consumers interact at the point of purchase.

The technology benefits both consumers and merchants. Consumers will be able to engage with merchants, browse products and make quick, easy and secure payments. Merchants will be able to accept payments and gain the ability to directly interact with customers with follow up marketing communications and offers.

“Sylo-CentraPay has the potential to completely change consumer touch points and the entire payment process,” said Ben Jordan, Product Director at Sylo. “Paying in the real world shouldn’t be so full of friction. CentraPay technology allows Sylo users to break down traditional payment barriers. You don’t need to carry a wallet or cash, you don’t need to wait in line, you don’t need to swipe or tap anything. Our business network is growing, and our partnership with CentraPay lets us streamline interactions for everyone involved.”

The Sylo-CentraPay partnership will provide new payment experiences anywhere a consumer can spend; from merchant point of sale systems, vending machines, within e-commerce shops, and even at parking machines. This will be made available within Sylo’s DApp, allowing people to interact with everyday businesses such as taxis, local cafés, entertainment venues or even airlines.

“The benefits for using the payment method cut both ways, consumers and merchants are both rewarded. For a simple night out at a restaurant, and before they even arrive, Sylo users will be able to book a table, pay for transport, and preorder drinks and food. At the end of the night, users enjoy the walkaway ‘Uber-style’ payment experience. For merchants, it allows them to deliver follow up communications such as specials, discounts or even a simple ‘thank you’ from the restaurant itself,” added Jordan.

The partnership has begun work with a top global vendor of payment terminals to be named later. The system will be introduced in Australasia, and subsequently rolled out into greater Asia and other parts of the world. CentraPay is also working with parties in Japan to bring the digital payment experience to vending machines and other IOT devices.
