Dawn of the Sylo Node

How you can contribute to the Sylo Network

2020 has been a year of many things. Some of these things were… less than thrilling. But if you’re following the work at Sylo you’ll know that this quarter is bringing many amazing Sylo developments your way, all which build on our upcoming Oya Launch.

Amongst this excitement and one of the integral parts of the Oya Launch is the emergence of a project with which I’ve been heavily involved — the Sylo Node.

Over the past few months, I’ve written extensively about the technology inside the Sylo Nodes and how we were bringing it together to make our decentralised platform even larger, while also enabling powerful new features in apps like the Sylo Smart Wallet. Our work has now reached the point that we can take our next big step forward.

Today is an exciting day for me. Today I get to invite all of you into the future. Today I get to truly unveil the Sylo Node to the world.

This post will be a brief overview — to give me the chance to show how the Sylo Nodes (and the Sylo Network they enable) are poised to revolutionise the decentralised space. In the coming weeks, I’m going to tell you more about how to setup, run, and explore your own Sylo Node, so that you are ready to run a Sylo Node after our Oya release.

1. Powerful Infrastructure

The Sylo Node is the foundation of a global, decentralised network. The distributed Sylo Nodes provide communication channels between any devices running the Sylo Protocol. Sylo Nodes are simple to run, so anyone can be part of the network.

The network scales with ease and is not bound to any centralised nodes.
All the Sylo-operated nodes could be removed and the Sylo Network would remain. Users are not bound to any specific node and can jump seamlessly to any other as necessary. This is literally an unstoppable network.

2. Limitless Opportunity

As the Sylo Network grows, there will be an increasing number of opportunities for those participating in the Sylo ecosystem. At Sylo, we take pride in moving quickly into new areas of decentralisation and bringing the best opportunities to our users and partners.

Operating a Sylo Node gives you a voice in which directions we move the technology and how we unfold the future together. We want to do it together — not alone.

3. Fair Reward

We understand that the success of the Sylo Network is dependent on a secure and robust method of fair reward. Our network has been designed from the ground up to provide incentivisations to Sylo Node operators.

The Sylo Protocol has built-in support for probabilistic micropayments and Sylo Nodes have been designed to accept these payments. This mechanism (and others in the pipeline) are brought together with the Sylo Token to ensure a marketplace of services that benefit all.

4. Join Early

Don’t get left out! We’re designing Sylo Nodes to be fast and easy to setup, so there is no reason to put it off. Being one of the earliest providers of Sylo Node services puts you in a prime position for early network incentives. Sylo will be working closely with our early node operators to facilitate their journey onto the network.

5. Learn the Technology

Setting up a Sylo Node early means having extra time to learn the ins and outs of a decentralised network. How can you join your node to the Sylo Network, acquire users, and provide the best service? How will you capitalise when important opportunities are announced. How many users do you want to support and which services will you offer? Do you want something custom from the network and can Sylo help you reach achieve it?

6. Make Grand Plans

It’s time to start dreaming big! The Sylo Network has the flexibility to support a wide range of decentralised visions — integrating communication, wallets, smart money, micropayments, and blockchains — then delivering it to every person on the planet with powerful privacy and security. The next big innovation to land on the Sylo Network could be your own!

Get Your Sylo Node

Initially, Sylo Nodes are only being made available as Docker images. These images will become publicly accessible in the near future — watch this space! This will give interested parties the chance to deploy a node (or even a whole network) and attach to the existing global Sylo Network.

During the initial phases of deployment, you will not need to worry about servicing Sylo users. This is an opportunity for our early operators to understand the technology, learn and ask questions. Please reach out to our team with questions via contact@sylo.io.

Initially, our Sylo Nodes will require some technical setup, but our intention is to make running a Node an achievable feat for everyone. Over the coming months, we will be releasing detailed yet straightforward walk-throughs, set up guides and videos that make contributing to the Sylo Network easy.

My next post will discuss the details of joining the Sylo Network. This will be a technical dive into the product and will give you everything needed to get started. Personally, I am really excited to begin sharing this technology — and I know the rest of the Sylo team is in agreement.

Looking forward to the coming weeks and a decentralised future.
