Projekt Ilaiyaraaja — 2 — Arumbum Thalire

Projekt Ilaiyaraaja is a 365 day project from my side to share one song of the musical genius every day with legal download links. If you like the song, please click the link below and buy it legally.

Arumbum Thalire

Movie: Chandralekha (1995)
Director: MGR Nambi
Actors: Vijay, Vanitha Vijayakumar
Singers: Arunmozhi, Preethi and Unnikrishnan ( 2 versions — Happy and sad version)
Lyrics: Vaali

Happy version sung by Arunmozhi & Preethi

Tharai Varamal — Sad version sung by Unnikrishnan

Trivia

1. Preethi is the daughter of Uttam Singh — music director and conductor. He has collaborated with Ilaiyaraaja and was instrumental in getting Hari Prasad Chaurasia to do Nothing but wind. Preethi is now one of the leading singers in Bollywood

2. There are still arguments among Iliyaraaja fans on the choice of singers. There are lot of songs from Ilaiyaraaja that has same tune with different moods. Analysts say just a change of few notes but I am amazed at the way he could do it with so many tunes and Raagas.
