Projekt Ilaiyaraaja Season III — 153/365 — Yaiyaiya/ Mugilo Megamo

The first song that Yuvan Shankar Raja sang for Ilaiyaraaja was in the movie En Bommukutty Ammavukku in which he playbacked for Geethu Mohandas (and in the same movie Bhavatharini playbacked for her in another song).

But my most favourite song of Yuvan for Ilaiyaraaja Mugilo Megamo from Megha. It’s quite untypical song for Yuvan because it’s a very soft melody and he was forced not to use his typical singing style. But as a song itself is a beautifully orchetrated piece with amazing guitar progressions, flute, percussion and the use of harp in the song is amazing.

The production house released the making video for Ilaiyaraaja’s 76th birthday and it showed how he works on the orchestration with his muscians from Hungary. The song didn’t feature in the movie and part of it was used in the title credits.
