Projekt Ilaiyaraaja Season III — 181/365 — Edakku Mudakkana

Kalaignan was not an usual album. When it was launched, the reception was underwhelming except for Endhan Nenjil and Dillubaru Jaane. I used to see Dillubaru Jaane repeated in Oliyum Oliyum a lot. But other songs in the movie especially the stage songs in the movie never got their due.

The movie was ahead of its time too. Now, Tamil movie world is rife with serial killer movies. Edakku Mudakkana Sarakku is one of the most difficult songs to sing. The range that SPB goes in this song is unimaginable. The first part of both the charanams have sound effects after every line that’s done by SPB himself. The techno based orchestration with heavy beats, flawless rendition by SPB and crazy antics by Kamal Hassan in the video makes this song fantabulous.

I haven’t seen anyone perform this song on stage.
