Projekt Ilaiyaraaja Season III — 266/365 — Manasoram

The aim of the series is to introduce those songs of Ilaiyaraaja that are usually overlooked and post 2000s, most of Ilaiyaraaja’s works are overlooked because most of the movies he worked with didn’t have the marketing budgets that could push songs on FM radio channels (not going into the business aspect how certain movie songs are played repeatedly to garner popularity).

The song that I have chosen today came out in 2011 and the movie didn’t make any ripples. The song is beautiful melody that you woudl expect from Ilaiyaraaja with a lilting synth rhythm. While you can hear the soft guitar, the first interlude hits you with a beautiful shehnai in combination with the flute while in the second interlude he goes with Sadhana’s huming and flute.

The song is based in Suddha Saveri, wonderfully rendered by Sriram Parthasarathy (who was a regular in Ilaiyaraaja’s albums in the early part of the decade) and Sadhana Sargam.
