Projekt Ilaiyaraaja Season III — 356/365 — Oli Tharum Suriyanum

Vaalmiki is another movie that came and went without any trace . But it had a couple of beautiful songs that went unntoiced too. I have already posted Kooda Varuviya in Season 1.

The song that I am posting today is an uplifting duet between the lead characters. The song at the start might not not sound that special but the way Raaja layered his instrumentation will suck you into the song. The song starts with a chorus of children singing Manathil Uruthi Vendum. The prelude of the song is two different layers of guitar and strings. The rhytm of the song is provided by the synth beats but in the background you can hear the bass guitar travelling with the singers.

The grandeur of the song slowly reveals itself in the interludes with strings ensemble, oboe, bass guitar and chorus. The intersersing of instruments in the charanams gives a different dimension to the song. Complex instrumentation, layering and yet it sounds so simple — just another day for Raaja.
