Projekt Ilaiyaraaja Season III — 72/365 — Aadhamum Yevalum

I was listening to the director and producer Manoj Kumar’s Interview on Touring Talkies and he was talking about this song. Although I knew about the song, somehow it was not on the list. He said all the 5 songs were tuned and recorded in two days. Three songs were recorded on the same day and it’s quite an impossible task at that time. Compare it with the music composers of these days and how long they take to compose, arrange and record a song.

Manoj Kumar is the assistant and brother-in-law of Bharathiraja. His first movie as a director was Mannukkul Vairam. He even explains that Ilaiyaraaja was miffed that he went with another music director for his debut movie. But he came back to him for his third movie, Maruthu Pandi produced by the famous politician, Thirunavukkarasar. Maruthu Pandi was a massive hit at the box office and became of one of the highest grosser for Ramki. The movie was remade in Kannada and Hindi.

The prelude of the song with the female chorus and the strings will give you a transcendental effect. It seems Manoj Kumar said that he was going to shoot the song with the lead actors (Ramki and Nirosha) like Adam and Eve. The lyrics depict that and both individual interludes can become their own song. I am not going to comment on how the song was finally shot ;)
