The Neo-Tribe of Rajinikanth and the Baashha Syndrome
Abstract: This article traces the history of Rajinikanth movies and how a neo-tribe was formed through the lens of Mafessoli’s neo-tribalism theory. It also elaborates on how this neo-tribe is immersed in a Baashha syndrome and how Petta used this syndrome to market the movie. In the end, I make a case for why Rajinikanth will not be able to convert his neo-tribe into a political movement.
