Medium Highlight Poll: Should U.S. Make College Tuition Free?

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Tuesday introduced legislation to make 4-year public colleges and universities tuition free.
“We live in a highly competitive global economy. If our economy is to be strong, we need the best educated work force in the world. That will not happen if every year hundreds of thousands of bright young people cannot afford to go to college and if millions more leave school deeply in debt,” Sanders said.

Interesting news. I want to try something different with it today: a highlight poll.

What’s that? Easy — just use Medium’s highlight tool to let me know what you think of the free tuition proposal. To participate, log in to Medium and highlight the answer below that best corresponds to your views. Vote once. You can join in on mobile by using our iOS app.

Highlight Poll

  1. This is a fantastic idea, long overdue. Hillary Clinton should adopt this as part of her education plan, and Congress should pass this bill ASAP.
  2. This is a terrible idea. America would suffer if we underwrote the costs of higher education for the masses.
  3. Great idea, but this bill has no hope of passing. Bernie Sanders can’t win the nomination or the presidency so he’s free to make wild political gestures like this that are ultimately pointless.
  4. Free tuition isn’t the end game here. This is savvy politics that will put pressure on Hillary Clinton to address the crushing costs of tuition as part of her as yet-to-be-announced education policy.
