AAAI 2020 Reports Record-High Paper Submissions
The annual meeting of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) is one of the world’s leading conferences in the field of artificial intelligence. Conference organizers have now sent out author notifications on accepted papers for the 34th AAAI, which will be held February 7–12, 2020 in New York, USA.
AAAI-20 welcomes submissions on mainstream AI topics and related areas and reported a record-high number of over 8,800 submissions — a thousand more than last year. The figures were included in paper acceptance notification emails AAAI-20 recently sent to authors.
The email noted that 7,737 submissions were reviewed and 1,591 accepted “due to space limitations.” Although this year’s acceptance rate of 20.6 percent is higher than last year’s 16.2 percent, some reviews and rejections have again come under question. Università della Svizzera Italiana PhD student Daniele Grattarola tweeted his paper was rejected due reviewers’ different commenting styles: “This is borderline offensive. This is a joke.” Grattarola followed up that he’d be “resubmitting to another venue where the review process actually matters.”
Assistant Professor Bolei Zhou from The Chinese University of Hong Kong had better news to tweet: a reviewer responded to his author rebuttal by upgrading their score to correct a “misoperation during reviewing.”
