The World’s Fastest Supercomputer Designed for AI Computation

The US Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee today introduced the world’s fastest supercomputer Summit, whose computing power reaches 200 petaflops or 200 million billion calculations per second. It is 60 percent faster than the previous leading supercomputer — China’s Sunway TaihuLight.
Summit is built on over 9,000 general-purpose processors from IBM and 28,000 graphics processors from Nvidia. And it is also the world’s most powerful machine built ever for AI technologies, such as deep learning techniques and other neural networks, to solve sophisticated problems in high-energy physics, materials discovery, healthcare, chemistry and more.
