WAIC 2018 Day Two: Tencent Announces Open AI Platform AI.QQ.COM
At the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2018 in Shanghai today, Tencent Mobile Internet Group Vice President Hou Xiaonan announced the company’s new Open AI platform, “AI.QQ.COM.”
AI.QQ.COM is supported by Tencent AI Lab, Tencent Excellent, WeChat AI, etc., and aims to build an AI ecosystem comprising Tencent’s diverse AI technical capabilities. The platform makes more than 100 AI interfaces available to industry. During a test period in the lead-up to today’s launch, AI.QQ.COM received more than 100 million invocations per day.
Xiaonan also officially announced the second phase of Tencent’s AI Accelerator for AI entrepreneurs, which provides partners with solutions in the areas of technology, industry resources, markets, investments, etc.
Although current demand for AI is growing and spreading across various industries, there are still barriers between AI tech development and industry application. The Tencent Open AI Platform release is a significant step towards bridging Tencent’s AI capabilities with industry to promote cooperation and progress in this regard.
Other highlights from the WAIC 2018 so far include:
- Release of the 80-page “2018 World AI Industry Development Blue Book” developed by Gartner and CAICT. The publication suggests that AI deployment is still at a very early stage as only four percent of surveyed companies are deploying AI technologies. Click this link to read the book.
- Tech titans Microsoft, Amazon, Alibaba and Tencent pledged to open or expand existing AI research centres in Shanghai.
- Chinese AI startup SenseTime launched the Global College of Artificial Intelligence Academic Alliance. The initiative is supported by 15 of the world’s top-tier universities, including MIT, Tsinghua University and Shanghai Jiaotong University.
