Microsoft Flow SharePoint to Twitter Connect

Yesterday, we were experimenting with Microsoft Flow. It’s a neat little tool from Microsoft that allows anyone to create workflows on the fly from within Office 365. There is a free plan and two additional plans for heavier users. We are currently using the free Microsoft Flow plan in this video in order to perform a Microsoft Flow SharePoint to Twitter Connect.

As you can see in the video above, creating a Flow is really easy.

Step 1: Create an account at flow.microsoft.com

Step 2: Sign in to Office 365 and any social networks you wish to use in your Flows.

Step 3: Create a custom SharePoint list to house the Flow data (assuming you are creating a SharePoint Flow)

Step 4: Search for a template that has the functionality you desire.

Step 5: Click on “Use This Template”.

Step 6: Make sure you are signed in to the correct Office 365 account and social network to use for the Flow. (If not, click on “Switch Accounts” and enter the appropriate data.)

Step 7: Click “Continue”.

Step 8: Fill in the appropriate data, paying particular attention to entering the correct URL for the SharePoint site containing the custom SharePoint list you created in Step 3. This is very important as the correct URL is needed to auto-populate the “List Name” field. Click on the custom list we created in Step 3 in the “List Name” field.

Step 9: Enter the appropriate data in the fields that appear after selecting the custom list.

Step 10: Click on “Create Flow” then click on “Done”.

Step 11: Return to the custom SharePoint list we created in Step 3. Wait a few minutes and refresh the page.

Your Microsoft Flow SharePoint to Twitter Connect is now live!

You should see all tweets matching your selected hashtag in your custom SharePoint list.

Editor’s Note: Be very selective when choosing a hashtag to connect to your SharePoint site. We chose a popular hashtag and the connection used up most of our free plan in a matter of minutes! If you are on a free plan, you should probably choose a hashtag that is not hugely popular.
