Young-Han Lee, Legal Advisor to Synesis One

My first encounter was with Paul. Then Josh. I was mesmerized with their vision and ideal. AI run on a decentralized ecosystem is super innovating at the very least. And the AI that Mind AI is trying to invent is the closest thing to AGI that we’ve been looking for,” says Young-Han Lee, Legal Advisor to Synesis One.

We’re back again this week with our Advisor Series, and we’re very happy to introduce you to our Legal Advisor, Young-Han Lee who has extensive experience working in advisory and litigation services internationally in a range of fields including blockchain, US litigation, patents, forensics and energy.

After a hugely varied and impressive legal career, Young-Han Lee is looking forward to pursuing one of his other passions and interests, as he supports Synesis One. He shares: “I have always found myself intrigued and interested in new technologies and emerging industries. Navigating through a less traveled road means a lot to me. Now I’ve relocated to Seoul and I’m going after my dreams! And I really appreciate bumping into Mind AI on the way.”

Legal Background

Young-Han brings a huge wealth of experience to his role advising Synesis One. Before his work in the private sector he worked as a litigation officer at the Defense of Acquisition Program Administration and also as the head of the legal office at the ROK-US Combined Forces Command (CFC). He has been part of high profile cases, notably he carried out the largest ever International Trade Commission case pertaining to trade secrets on batteries. He also works at Amazon headquarters performing internal forensic and interview procedures.

His great interest in AI and all things tech made him a natural fit for the organization, after an initial meeting it became apparent that he shared the same aspirations and excitement for AI that Synesis One is all about.

“My first encounter was with Paul. Then Josh. I was mesmerized with their vision and ideal. AI run on a decentralized ecosystem is super innovating at the very least. And the AI that Mind AI is trying to invent is the closest thing to AGI that we’ve been looking for,” he says.

Evolving area of law

He comes on board at a time where his legal expertise is of great importance; the law around blockchain is constantly moving and evolving so there is a real need for up-to-date specialist knowledge. Changes and bills are being proposed around the globe; from the USA to India and Turkey. Young-Han says:

“The law around the crypto is ever changing. As a practitioner, we need to come up with creative ways to face challenges. We need to be compliant as possible, however at the same time, we want to be as creative as possible.”

DeFi-Related Exchanges

Another area of expertise that Young-Han brings to our work is his great knowledge about DeFi- related exchanges. DeFI Exchanges are one of the most innovative movements in crypto at the moment. By offering decentralised exchanges it’s possible to bring a level of community and equality that traditional financial models do not support. But the complexities around changing regulations bring fresh challenges, with many people predicting that 2022 will be the year that sees significantly more regulation in the sector. Young-Han outlines this further:

“Nobody really gives us the guidelines, as FATF guideline really don’t tell us much either. If you choose to move forward and launch services in terms of DeFi, this has always been related to securities regulation. If ICO, IDO, or crowd funding is categorized as security, then every problem breaks loose. We need to be extra careful to tailor the conditions to comply with the existing regulations.”

But the philosophies and values behind DeFi are ones that both Young-Han and Synesis One hold — a shared commitment to creating a trustless, decentralized, and more egalitarian project.

“We need to be careful. These precious goods should be decentralized and work for the good of everybody. I believe it is what the team goes after and I am having so much fun being part of it,”says Young-Han.
