The Characters of Quantum Noesis
Quantum Noesis is a game, with diverse and challenging puzzles, but it is also a story. And as a story, it has the usual story elements including setting, plot, conflict, resolution, and characters. The setting is the near future. The plot / conflict involves an attempt by MegaCorp and its sociopath CEO to destroy the Noosphere DAO and steal EVI’s code. The resolution of the story? You’ll have to play to find out!
As you advance through the story, you’ll meet various characters, including allies and antagonists. Who are they?
The Main Characters in Quantum Noesis
YOU
Noosphere has gamified part of its security system, to transform threats to the code base into audio visual puzzles. The idea is that gamer intuition and creativity will help thwart would-be attackers. That’s where you come in. You are a recruit. Pass the training level and join the security team in their battle to keep the Noesis Network safe from malicious actors.
EVI
EVI is the world’s first sentient AI. It’s up to you, the player, to protect her from enemy forces so that she can help uplift humanity. As the game progresses, you’ll discover that EVI is more than just ones and zeroes. She has a complex emotional life, feels compassion for humans, and sometimes needs to unplug (no pun intended) to unwind and recharge.
PILAR
Another main character is Pilar. She’s a liaison between EVI and players, created to turn complex algorithmic problems into puzzles comprehensible to the human mind. She is somewhat impatient with her colleagues, but she’ll be right there with you through the fight — developing a grudging respect for human abilities.
JAEGER
Jaeger is the head of W^X , the elite cyber security force that keeps the Noesis Network safe. W^X is named for a security feature that protects system memory, by preventing programs from writing (‘W’) potentially malicious CPU instructions to memory and executing (‘X’) them. He and his security analysts and intelligence officers monitor the network from the command center.
SCIENCE TEAM
Noosphere DAO employs leading artificial intelligence researchers who have made the breakthroughs that made EVI possible. The team includes Dr. Jung-Hoon, Dr. Imani Wright, and Dr. Anastasia Zakharova, and Dr. Nigel Williams, whom EVI entrusts with a secret about the deeper purposes of the gamified security system.
MEGACORP
MegaCorp is a massive, transnational data-opoly, whose sociopath CEO Mike Vanderberg sees EVI as a threat to his business model. He’s not above collaborating with military intelligence to hack the Noosphere DAO and steal EVI’s code for his own nefarious purposes.
