Next Tech Winter of Code
Next Tech Winter of Code is a month long, open-source initiative aimed towards proliferating, uplifting and inculcating the values of open-source contribution, git workflow and general collaborative techniques amongst budding developers and coders. We aim to spread knowledge about collaborative development all around SRM Institute of Science and Technology.
How do we join in?
We encourage maximum number of students to take part in this event. We have 2 tracks for joining in, the Mentors Track and Students Track. Visit our site to check out the Mentor’s and Student’s Guide.
What are these tracks?
Tracks are basically the bifurcation between what the participant does. Mentors are those students from SRM who are distinguished in the fields of technology, have won hackathons, published papers and given international talks in worlds forums. They will guide the Student participants while doing an open-source project. Student participants are going to be selected by the Mentors based on what project the student chooses. Every student will be carefully mentored and taught the ways through which the open-source community releases projects or softwares. They will get a month to complete the given project.
A month? That’s too long…
A month is certainly required to take on a big project. Moreover, it will be held during the month of December, 2018, during the winter holidays. This means that there is going to be a balance between internships and Winter of Code. Each week, code written by the participants will be reviewed and worked on. There will be a constant pressure to get things done, in the best way possible.

That’s not all! We provide free merch for all selected participants and help them prepare well for the upcoming Google Summer of Code. We also give the participants a chance to fastrack their application to Next Tech Lab, SRM Institute of Science and Technology — A student run multidisciplinary lab working on cutting edge technology.
