The gaming industry has reached a standstill, and everyone is waiting for the new releases of Call of Duty and God of War. Few games were released in early fall, as well as in summer. While you wait for the fall blockbusters, what can you play? The release of the sequel to the excellent A Plague Tale: Innocence — A Plague Tale: Requiem — has passed many by.

It’s a game about surviving a medieval plague epidemic. Instead of plague, there is a disease called “The Bite,” The most significant danger is thousands of rats, but first things first. I’m not done with the game at the time of writing this post, and I’m less than 1/3 of the way through. However, I, as a fan of the first part, have thoughts that I want to express, as well, after a full walkthrough. I will complete this post at the very end after the separator. You can find my thoughts when they are ready. For now, let’s deal with everything one by one.

What about Plague Tale: Requiem plot?

The plot begins almost where the first part ended (FURTHER SPOILERS TO THE FIRST PART), the Inquisitor-in-chief is defeated, the disease has retreated from Hugo and Amicia, and Hugo, their Mother, and Lucas have gone away from Hyena.

During the plot of Part II, they will have to find a way to fight Hugo’s illnesses. The first part of the game will show that he could not overcome it to the end. This will lead to more disasters and hordes of rats that spread the deadly disease.

In my opinion, the plot became more brutal. From the first hours, we are faced with the fact that the characters have matured and become more concerned with what they do and how they affect those around them. So far, I particularly like the inner conflict of Amicia, who is worried that she might let her brother down and is trying not to become the kind of killer she hates. The plot is very intriguing from the beginning, and I want to know how it will develop.

What gameplay has Plague Tale: Requiem?

In my opinion, the gameplay is a moot point in Plague Tale: Requiem. It hasn’t changed much. You still have to crawl through bushes, hide from guards, scare away hordes of rats with fire, and rely primarily on stealth. If you liked the first part, you would surely enjoy the second one.

In addition, the gameplay gained many new features. Throughout the story, you will unlock new alchemical compositions that were not in the first part. It also added new stealth elements, such as crawling under the table, different distracting tools, and more. I can say that this is A Plague Tale: Innocence multiplied by 1.5.

The battle arenas are also pleasantly surprising. They have become much more. There are many different ways to pass locations. Depending on the style of your passing, you will develop other branches of skills ( Skyrim-Like Skills System). Also, your actions will respond to your companions. However, no one will directly force you to be a pacifist or kill everyone around you. The choice is yours alone.

I would say that after similar gameplay in Last Of Us Part 2, the gameplay of Plague Tale looks a bit outdated. Although, of course, these are games from entirely different scales. I guess I’m just a little tired of stealth action games.

I would also like to note that the graphics have improved markedly. The picture looks excellent and detailed. However, there are certain questions about the greenery. I also really like the vast number of rats on the screen. The developers promised that there would be millions of rats in the game and they are not lying.

How about Plague Tale: Requiem performance?

I don’t have the most advanced PC. The game runs pretty well on my system with an RTX 2060, Rysen 5 3600, and 16GB of RAM, especially for modern releases. It produces a stable 60fps at high settings and DLSS on for quality. If you have an even more powerful system, you don’t have to worry about its stability.

However, all is not so good with consoles. Unfortunately, the developers didn’t add performance mode to A Plague Tale: Requiem. On consoles, it’s limited to 30 fps (or 40 fps if you have HDMI 2.1 and 120Hz monitor). This is a very unfortunate limitation that should not be in modern games of this level. Perhaps the developers will add a performance mode in time, but the situation is not the best so far.

Besides this, the game does not work on consoles in 4K. It has a maximum resolution of 1440p. Which also remains a significant disadvantage for console gamers. Although if you still do not have a 4K TV or monitor, it will not be a problem for you.

Does Plague Tale: Requiem worth buying?

Since I’m mostly positive about the game, I think you were confident I would recommend it for purchase. However, it’s not that simple. For example, the game is sold in the PS Store for 60 dollars. This is the price of AAA-level projects from which there are certain expectations.

I can say that A Plague Tale: Requiem is a good story game and a quality sequel to the first part, which should not cost $60. Especially when running at only 30 frames on the PS5. I recommend you wait for discounts and get it at a lower price.

The situation is a bit better if you own a PC or Xbox. Since the game from the first for is available on Game Pass. I recommend you buy a Game Pass subscription and play the game there. I am convinced that it is worth your time, but giving $60 for it is too expensive.

However, if you are a big fan of the first part and the price tag of 60 dollars is not a big figure for you, then feel free to buy it. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
