Cara Taylor’s flair for creating handmade porcelain planters becomes a strong contender in the world of pottery. Founded in 2009, Taylor Ceramics began as an expressive output that “speaks to the aspects of life where [Taylor] finds meaning and creates ritual.” Here we find mugs and ceramicware that cement mealtimes as a place where friends and family gather, as well as planters that definitively and almost single-handedly turn houses into homes.

L-R: Porcelain striped platters; Designed with thin, slightly irregular stripes; These planters are made by throwing them on the wheel.

The unique designs (literally speaking, most of Taylor’s planters are one-of-a-kind) have their roots in the way the products are made: she works with thin clay slabs and experiments with the ways in which these can be folded and bent to create 3-dimensional forms. A hallmark of Taylor’s designs is the way the porcelain overlaps its individual slabs, creating subtle curves that effortlessly highlight their accoutrements.

The celadon glaze used universally in all her products is able to emphasize the other design elements such as shape and texture.
