Smoothie Sunday: Mango Lassi

Smoothie Sunday is a Tablecrafter series on creating flavorful blended beverages.

Originating from the Punjab region in India, the lassi typically consists of yogurt, water, and spices. A refreshing beverage that complements the Indian weather and cuisine, the lassi cuts through the spice and picante of the rich, heavily-spiced dishes of the country. The mixture captures the flavors of India, and the tart yogurt and pungent spices embody the regions’ play of contrasting flavors.

The traditional Punjabi savory yogurt drink pairs well with sweet mangoes in our recipe. A popular variation on the original drink, the addition of mangoes in lassi sweetens the drink while retaining its refreshing tang. Definitely not limited to afternoons under the Indian sun, you can have this lassi in the comforts of your own home.
