Whatever the Case May Be

I rest my case now,
cross my arms,
tap my feet
on this quiet
battlefield
wondering
if you will rise
from the ashes
or leave me
buried here.

But there is
a relief, too,
in letting go,
in saying NO
to being anything
other than
everything
to you.

I never
should have had
to fight for that.
