Tactopus

What do we do?

We create interactive tangible learning material for blind children.

Why do we do it?

It’s fun, and it makes a lot of people happy.

Who are we?

We are a group of interaction designers, industrial designers and software developers who enjoy making things and like to work on exciting challenges.

How do we do it?

We have designed a desktop learning companion which has a camera in it. The camera is overlooking a board, on which tactile graphics can be kept. Out tactile graphics come pre-programmed with information. When a child read a tactile graphic with their hands, the camera tracks their fingers’ position on the board, and provides audio labels, descriptions and guidance.
Using the same image processing technology, the device also identifies our range of game objects — braille alphabet cards, number tokens, language cubes, vocabulary hook, and other play items.

Check it out for yourself.

How far along are we?

We have now launched a minimum viable product, available to schools and special educators. If you’d like this early copy, and would like to be involved in the development process with your feedback, please email us at team.tactopus@gmail.com or chandni@tactopus.com
