Father's Duty: A family first Story
I moved to Luxembourg in March 2022 with my wife and my 2 years old daughter. As most of you know, it’s a difficult task to get admission for your kid in any daycare, or as we call it here creche. Nevertheless, we enrolled and waited for 6 long months. During this phase, my wife took care of our kid at home and in the meanwhile, she was also looking for a new job. In September we got two great news and one little challenge; our daughter was accepted to a creche, my wife got the job, and somebody needed to take the little one through the adaptation process.
As per the law of the land in Luxembourg, my daughter had to go through an adaptation period at the creche for 2 weeks. This means, for a 2-week period one of the parents should take her to the creche and stay with her between one and two hours to make sure she gets adapted to the new environment of educators, place, and kids around and get her back home to babysit her for the rest of the day.
Since my wife was at a new workplace, she was expected to go to the office daily and could not work from home. Thus, I had to be there for my daughter to take her through this adaptation process. This was a very crucial phase for us, and I had no option but to be working completely remotely for 2 weeks with unavailability for 1 or 2 hours, while I was at the creche with my kid.
At that moment, I had less than 3 months working at Tadaweb. I was really skeptical if this way of working would be sustainable for my peers, team, and managers, as all of us, are co-located with no one preferring to work remotely, at least not daily. My entire team and the management were completely supportive during my time working from home and never made me feel disconnected. This is the kind of atmosphere you would want in any company, to be energized to go to work every day and feel motivated to do your best.
