Both were done a long, long time ago long, long before computers when people simply built relationships with customers, made a few notes, tried a few things to see what worked better to meet the goals they had at their bottom line.
Remember, that not all of Starbucks data driven campaigns result in a profit increase or customer satisfaction. Some of their efforts fail miserably.
This isn’t A.I.. It’s simply access programming based on a set of data that’s repeatable. Real A.I. wouldn’t bother with the cloud at all. It would be a chip that learns from problems and fixes them without any noted schedule using instantly updated data streams that match a rule set held in memory and plows it into a few matching algorithms to act.
This is automated Clover that misses the talent their staff uses on Clover — that stir by hand and settings by hand that some of us customers prefer. Simply not the case in almost every Starbucks store I’ve been to througout Washington State and across the south and mid portions of the US coast to coast. NONE of them had digital signage like you would see at a McDonald’s. Instead, the Starbucks stores use professional placards they get every time they want to put up signage that fits in top and bottom slots.
If this was actually true they would not have placed so many of their stores in low traffic, hard to find, hard to imagine why kinds of locations.
