Many have asked me what “good” means in the context of the headline of my article and it’s content.
A good company produces a profit for its shareholders by creating and selling excellent products and services. By that measure, Amazon is certainly a good company.
This is not the correct way to think about this. Apple has benefited from the availability of apps and you are ignoring that benefit completely. Had all the various apps not been there, apple phones would not have sold so much. If you charge Apple for the additional sales because of the increased usefulness of the phone, you will cross $100mn many times over.
The main objection of the article was not on charging the 30% commission but on the restriction that other developers cannot offer alternative means of payment or even mention those means or give their URLs.
