Taiwan is a growing market for Australian wine, with a population of 23 million people and described by Debra Meiburg MW as ‘unique, robust and eager’, their wine export is approximately A$18 million (largely comparably to South Korea) and growing by 10 per cent (MAT August 2016). Wine Australia together with their partner Austrade are organising the first New-to-Market Australian Wine Showcase in Taiwan, where the consumption of wine has grown by 8.6 per cent annually since 2010. They expect 80–100 members of the Taiwanese wine trade (half of who are wine importers) to attend this event to meet Australian wineries yet to be introduced to the Taiwanese market.
