Rooting for the Warriors is like congratulating a hedge fund baby for getting a good job out of college — the Golden State Hedge Fund Babies — works too because they’re about as arrogant as hedge fund babies.
This is the same Spurs we’ve always had. Every year they’re the 3rd-6th best team with a deep rounded roster that’s in the mix. They win win win right up until they lose. Some years the perfect superteam or healthy A+ team never comes so they win it all. It’s its own formula, a Patriots or baseball mentality in a sport where superstars dominate.
Kevin Love, D’Angelo Russell, four Atlanta picks, young Denver guys, Markelle Fultz… just a few of the presumed packages the Pacers passed on for a horrible Oladipo deal. Heck even Clarkson, Randle, and a pick looks like a great deal next to this. Disastrous.
College hoops essentially lost Simmons and Fultz the last two seasons and it hardly mattered. If the top 10–20 players are missing across hundreds of teams, UK and Duke will just be a little worse. We watch college hoops for the intensity and madness, not the high level of gameplay. It feels like we’d be years or decades away from ever intensely watching G league.
I don’t want to write or read about either of these teams anymore. Both of them stopped playing basketball long ago, and everyone has long since made up their mind about Russ. What he did was magnificent and we’ll never see it again. Now it’s over. The end.
