The Future of American Sports
Sports are outer models of our inner psychological lives.
College hoops essentially lost Simmons and Fultz the last two seasons and it hardly mattered. If the top 10–20 players are missing across hundreds of teams, UK and Duke will just be a little worse. We watch college hoops for the intensity and madness, not the high level of gameplay. It feels like we’d be years or decades away from ever intensely watching G league.
Might almost be better that the Jazz haven’t gotten that close yet, so he doesn’t have the Durantula taste of almost winning. He sounds pretty happy in Utah, like a guy who wants to see what all this is building toward. Maybe he considers a Brad Stevens reunion but the others don’t seem too likely.
We are like 3 years past the point of breaking up the Clippers. This team might have to beat the Rockets, Spurs, Warriors, and Cavs in consecutive series while staying healthy and sane, and there’s really no strong reason to believe they can even win one of those series right now. It’s just frustrating to watch at this point. You can see the ghosts come back in any close game.
This part is mind-boggling to me. That would have been the alpha-dog move to end all alpha-dogs moves.
