Our day on the California mission trail was one of highs and lows, both geographically and emotionally. Starting the ride with the minor setback of a deflated rear tire signaled that the day might be fraught with ups and down. And not just the type associated with the four climbs on the agenda. After a quick stop to restore some tire pressure, we headed east as I pondered the options for a more permanent repair. Soon the tiny matter of a leaky tire would be replaced by other concerns.
