It honestly feels like this is all just something for us to talk about as we count the days til the playoffs. There’s no real way to regulate rest. As Richard Jefferson said on The Jump yesterday, they can just list a nagging injury and voila, injury rest. And any rules about special protected or prime time games imbalances the best teams’ schedules from bad ones.
I wonder if they shouldn’t take the bubble wrap off the one man they didn’t play yesterday, old man Nick Collison. He’s a smart defender and far more useful in PNRs, on both ends of the court really. No reason he can’t stay with Houston’s big men, and he’d be able to stay better with Houston’s guards on a switch. Couldn’t he give them 15–20 useful minutes?
There’s another Gonzaga angle. They’ve been destroying all season and all tournament on defense, yet now it’s the SC defense getting all the attention. As mediocre as the SC offense is, I wouldn’t be shocked to see Gonzaga’s D just destroy them.
