Genetically engineered foods also known as genetically modified foods are foods produced from organisms, that is, plants, animals or microorganisms by altering their DNA through genetic engineering. While the spectacular advancement in the field of genetic engineering has resulted in the creation of nutritious foods with desired traits, there are a few cons to it. The foods created can have an allergic reaction and may also lead to unexpected genetic changes which might not be suitable to individuals. The most consumed genetically modified foods are corn, soybeans, maize, summer squash, potatoes, apples, alfalfa, and canola. GMOs can thrive in harsh climatic conditions. Although it requires little use of pesticides and insecticides, the cultivation of GMOs may actually disrupt the natural and procedural working of the environment and biodiversity.
