Can we please retire the phrase “morally bankrupt”?

It’s one of the more annoying buzz-phrases of the twenty-teens, at least partly because it literally makes no sense. Morals aren’t like money, where if you manage them wrong and spend too much you end up with debts. And anyway, bankruptcy…

The negative reactions are interesting. It seems that people feel some sort of “need” to express themselves in complex terms so they can feel superior. As someone who does not speak English as main language I find the idea of simple communication and writing to be a good thing.
