You’ve got it right, Richard. The problem of radical Islam is not just about its staunch followers, but also about our reaction to them. The Us versus Them retaliation attitude is no solution to it. It only aggravates social tension and pushes more Muslims — otherwise peaceful —down to the cult of the jihadists.

Ed Husain’s memoir, The Islamist, runs in a similar vein and gives an intriguing insight into the recruitment process of different Islamist groups. I would definitely recommend it; not only does it contain lots of useful information for understanding the inner workings of the Islamist movement, it is also a gripping and exciting read.
It’s really nice that you are so open to accepting others…… but people wont always treat you the same way. You just never know nowadays where the next radical lunatic will pop up from hurting innocent people in the name of religion or<fillltheblank>. IMO Its a shame the communities don’t do enough to keep the fanatics at bay.
