Not sure if this would work, but it’s based off a method we use for plugin trouble shooting:
Get one prisoner to drink from 500 bottles. If he becomes poisoned get another prisoner to drink half of those 500 bottles, otherwise the next prisoner drinks half of the other 500 bottles. Repeat until you only have one bottle left — the poisoned bottle.

I don’t think you need quite as fancy a solution- It would suffice to select for each bottle of wine a unique set of 5 prisoners, and administer each bottle to only the prisoners in its set. C(10, 5) is much greater than 1000, so you shouldn’t run out of unique combinations, and after the prisoners die you simply check which bottle was tasted by only the 5 dead prisoners.

I can’t agree with you. In Russia there is the same situation. But prisoners has no any access to midecine most of the time. And they are just die. And numbers of died russian prisoners are MUCH bigger then you can image.
