Russian Propaganda

Disinformation analysts working in the InfoTester project identified a new trend in the circles promoting false content — departure from the subject of the pandemic and vaccination against COVID-19 towards the war in Ukraine and the situation of refugees in Poland. The report takes a closer look at this change. When analysing which sources (media/paramedical sites) publish pro-Russian and anti-Ukrainian content, it was found that a significant part of the (dis)information space decided to change priorities very quickly. Confirmation of this fact can be found in the possibility of linking these portals with Russia or Russian financing. Subsequently, main disinformation messages (narratives) were studied in detail, and it was established that they focus on building resentment and fear of refugees from Ukraine. The last part of the report describes, using selected examples, how the leaders of anti-vaccination movements launched disinformation campaigns on the war in Ukraine.

The project “InfoTester — Development and verification of original methods of vertical artificial intelligence for automatic and precise detection of disinformation” is carried out as part of the Infostrateg competition National Center for Research and Development by the Medical University of Bialystok together with Science4People and the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology. As part of the project, the INFOTESTER crowdsourcing platform will be created, around which the community of Polish fact-checkers involved in the fight against disinformation in various areas of social life will develop.
