SB 149, a bill in South Dakota, allows state-funded adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective adoptive parents based on religious affiliations — South Dakota’s SB 149 Bill states: No child-placement agency may be required to provide any service that conflicts with, or provide any service under circumstances that conflict with any sincerely-held religious belief or moral conviction of the child-placement agency.

I’ve spent the last 4 days emailing with State Senators (Republican and Democrat), lawyers, attorneys, judges, and my mom about this issue. What I’ve found is that the “State of Emergency” declared in House Bill 1069 is unjustified, unethical, and borderline unconstitutional. To keep the repeal act from passing on Wednesday, South Dakota needs your help reaching out to Senator Blake Curd(blake.curd@sdlegislature.gov) and Senator Deb Peters(Deb.Peters@sdlegislature.gov). Let them know regardless of the end goal, abusing the State of Emergency declaration is not the way to get things done.
